The history of the library
In 1992, after 50 years the Mary Ward Secondary Grammar School was reopened. The first library was operated by Bókáné Anikó in building „A”. After some years the library moved to a new, bigger room in building „D”.
The library holdings have continuously been enriched, nearly 8000 documents can be found on the shelves. The processing of the holdings is being carried out by by a full-time librarian with the help of an integrated library system called Szikla 21. Due to this fact the informative work is assisted by various searching methods. Borrowing, taking back, booking operates on computer, within the integrated library system of „Szikla 21”, therefore the registration is fast and accurate. In case of on-the-spot usage, the readers can mostly use the reference library and the CD ROMs.
The basis of information service is the collection of documents, the „Szikla” database and the online catalogues of other libraries through the internet. We guarantee our students to use the permanent books as well.
At present the school library consists of two rooms, the smaller is used to keep the course books, while the other one, with 24 seats, assures the library service for the teachers, the students and all the employees of the school.
In 2010 our school entered for the tender TÁMOP-3.2.4-09/1 called „Knowledgedepot-Express” and gained 21.895.205 forints. The tender was called to strenghten the formal and informal educational role of the library on behalf of lifelong learning programme. Due to the tender, 5+1 computers, a printer, a photocopier, a projecter and a canvas help our work. Theschool’s website can be read in 3 languages (Hungarian, English and German), it has a 24-hour online service availability.
The main aim of the library is to help the educational work with its collection and service. It enables the readers to use its holdings individually and in a group. It also gives information on using bibliographies and it provides factual data. Borrowing has been made fast and more effective by the introduction of electronic catalogues. Another essential target is to help the students with the preparation for competitions, to enable students to carry out research. Its main task is to improve reading culture, to make students like literature and to assure students the opportunity to spend their free time in a useful way.
